A packet of WestCONnex unfiltered joined the Leichhardt Against WestConnex (LAW) and Rozelle Against WestConnex (RAW) protestors in Piper Street, Lilyfield on Tuesday 14th February. The messaging on the packet promises a wide range of illnesses, from headaches to cancers with the likelihood of a premature and painful death, courtesy of WestConnex and their unfiltered stacks. About 15 locals turned out to protest the drilling rigs in both Catherine and Starling Streets this morning. Many passing motorists honked their horns in support. A number of local residents on their way to work expressed surprise that investigations for the proposed tunnels were happening in their area, stating that they hadn’t been notified.
Drilling also continues in Easton Park, Rozelle beside the children’s playground. Seismic tests are being undertaken elsewhere in Easton Park and a rig is about to commence drilling at the corner of Denison Street and Easton Street, just across from the park. An area in Evans Street has been fenced off near the Three Weeds indicating the imminent arrival of yet another rig. The Lilyfield protest will continue again on Wednesday 15 February from 7 am to 9 am. RAW is also organising another big protest in Rozelle on Saturday from 7.30 am to 9 am. Details 0424 067 250.
